The 17th International Exhibition “Flowers 2010” The 17th International Exhibition “Flowers 2010” completed its work on September 5th, 2010. 680 companies from 29 countries have participated in the show, including 400 Russian companies representing 30 Russian regions and 280 international participants. At the inauguration ceremony there were present: P.P. Birukov, First Deputy Mayor of Moscow, the Government of Moscow, I.P.Malakhov, Director General, OAO “GAO VVC”, I.Ya. Raber, Prefect, Moscow’s North-Eastern District, A.V. Tsybin, Head, the Department of Housing and Public Works of Moscow, G.A. Zyuganov, Communist Party Leader, E.N Sidelnikova, Head, Department, R.F. Ministry of Regional Development, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Russian Federation Mr. Ron Keller, Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador in the Russian Federation Mr. Patricio Chaves Zavala. Unlike previous years, the exhibition widely presented products not only from Moscow region but from St. Petersburg, Stavropol and Krasnodar regions, from cities of Kaluga, Saratov, Rostov-on-Don, Veliky Novgorod, Tver, Novosibirsk, Vladimir, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Yaroslavl, Sverdlov, Kirov, Leningrad region and Republics of Udmurtia, Bashkiria, Tataria and Mordovia. International participants were represented by companies from Austria, England, Byelorussia, Belgium, Hungary, Denmark, Israel, Holland, Italy, Kazakhstan, UAE, Poland, Serbia, USA, Turkey, Ukraine, France, Croatia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, SA. Collective National displays were presented by Holland, Colombia and Ecuador, the largest suppliers of floricultural products to the Russian market. Nursery products, various planting stock and engineering were displayed at national stands of Poland, Italy and Belgium. The collective display of France was presented in the frameworks of the program Year of France in Russia. After a long break the German National Stand was organized with financial assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture of Germany. For the first time the official governmental support was provided in arranging of Collective Stand of Denmark. All this indicates that international companies are willing to invest in this sector of the Russian economy despite the ongoing economic crises. The exhibition was visited by 48 thousand people, including 26 thousand specialists and businessmen. Among visitors there were delegations of flower associations from Holland, Colombia, Ecuador, SA, Croatia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Ukraine. In the frameworks of the exhibition business program there were held over 50 events dealing with the sector’s urgent problems. They included the 7th Championship on Professional Floristics, conferences “Energy and resource saving in modern greenhouse sector. Latest technology in flower production”, “Innovative technology on the market of flower business and landscape industry”, “Potential of the Russian Greenhouses”, seminars: “Flowers and ornamental plants and peculiarities of their production”, floristic shows and demonstrations, master-classes of Russian and international florists. Over 10 000 people took part in these events. There was a tense competition among participants in the announce contests. Over 100 participants won Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. Roman Shtangauer from “Siberia Orchid” flower salon, Novosibirsk, won the title of the “Champion of Russia in Floristics”. The second and the third places were awarded to florists D. Borisov and Norbutate, both from Moscow, respectively.
